Russia is one of the strongest players in the world grains market. In 2022 Russia produced 150 mil tons of grains, including 100 mil tons of wheat. Considering investment dynamics, the Russian grains sector is firmly on the growth trajectory. Russia is in a position to export about 50 mil tons of wheat from the 2022 harvest and earlier stock, solidifying its leading role in the world wheat trade. FSU countries, Eurasian Economic Union, and especially Russia play a crucial role in providing food security for the world, exporting large volumes of grains, and making basic foods available and affordable to the growing world population.
So, what should have been done to fight current inflation? Every effort must be made to support production, producing industries. One thing that has to be done is the provision of affordable credit and capital sources. To that end, central banks need to keep a reasonably easy monetary policy. If credit is made more expensive, on top of all the other pressures on the producing sector of the economy, the supply is likely to shrink even more, the money-goods and services disbalance is likely to grow even further, and prices will grow accordingly. Hence, higher interest rates will cause even higher inflation.
So, why BRICS? The most obvious answer is that this group of countries represents the largest sector of the world economy today and will grow its size and relative importance in the future. First identified by BRICS abbreviation as a group of prospective emerging countries, it has been developing into a more cohesive group of countries with its own institutional cooperation structures, policy alignment, etc. Hence, any company serious about its international business prospects needs to think about its presence and interaction with BRICS.
